I am a Pentecostal and have been attending the Assemblies of God’s (AOG) Church for the last 15 years ever since I was saved. AOG in Malaysia hold to the doctrine of baptism in the Holy Spirit by initial evidence of speaking in tongues (glossolalia). I was baptized in the Holy Spirit in October 1997 as evidenced by speaking in tongues while attending a Sunday church service.
I believe in the experienced presence of the third person of the trinity that is the Holy Spirit and in the active involvement of the Holy Spirit in everyday life, including signs and wonders, divine healing, prophecy, speaking in tongues and other manifestations of the Spirit’s presence.

ReplyDeleteHi Kee Ming,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have substantial beliefs in Pentecostalism. Do you think it also substantial to dogmatize Pentecostalism since there might be enough scripture and evidence backing?
Great to hear that you are a Pentecostal thoroughbred. How about sharing some of your encounters with the Holy Spirit or experiences of His active involvement in your life? /Yet Meng
ReplyDeleteHi Kee Meng...
ReplyDeleteNice to hear from you bro...
Well you have stated that you are a Pentecostal but other than speaking in tougues you have not given enough reasons as to why you are one and not a third waver. Perhaps you could do so.
Thank you.
Just a quick check.. based on you paragraph
ReplyDelete"I believe in the experienced presence of the third person of the trinity that is the Holy Spirit and in the active involvement of the Holy Spirit in everyday life, including signs and wonders, divine healing, prophecy, speaking in tongues and other manifestations of the Spirit’s presence."
Is this to say that Charismatics and Third-Wavers don't believe the above?
Hi Kee Ming,
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear that you are pentecostal.
If you have a friend who is a charismatic and says that Pentecostalism is also a charismatic movement because it characteristically emphasises the working and gifts of the Spirit, with a special focus on baptism with the Spirit, the gift of tongues and the other spiritual gifts of 1 Corinthians 12:8-10.
How will you share your view on this and defend your pentecostal belief
Hi Kenrick,
ReplyDeletePentecostalism should not be dogmatized because there are different interpretations of scripture by church leaders of different denominations.
Hi Yet Ming (Heart of Dorcas),
ReplyDeleteThere are times when I just don’t know how to pray in my own spoken language that is English. It is during this desperate times I just pray in tongues to express myself to God. I feel edified after praying in tongues. That's why I make it a habit to pray in tongues daily.
Hi Samuel,
ReplyDeleteI am not a third waver because I identify myself as a Pentecostal. I believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as evidenced in speaking in tongues. I believe this gift is available to all Christians who desire it.
Hi Angeline,
ReplyDeleteThe Charismatics and Third-Wavers believe the above but they have different opinions on speaking in tongues. The Charismatics differ because of their refusal to insist upon speaking in tongues as an essential element of authentic Christian experience. The Third-Wavers have a low key acceptance of tongues as one of many NT spiritual gifts that God gives to some.
Hi Jason,
ReplyDeleteAlthough Charismatics are related to Pentecostalism, the Charismatic movement differs in not being denominationally organized and in its refusal to insist upon speaking in tongues as an essential element of authentic Christian experience.
Hi Kee Ming,
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I too considered myself a Pentecostal. But I realized that many AG churches including the present church I attended which has a history of 50 years do not really practiced the beliefs of true Pentecostalism. NECF survey quoted 75% churches called themselves Charismatic. What is your opinion on this?
Hi Kee Ming,
ReplyDeleteJust one more question. It links tyo my previous comment. Do you think a person can be both a true Pentecostal and Charismatic at the same time?
